Technical Requirements
There are 5 basic technical requirements for successful online learning:
- Webcam.
- MSN Messenger, free from Microsoft.
- A Broadband Internet connection, either cable modem or DSL.
- A personal computer with sufficient memory and a fast processor (e.g. Pentium III or Pentium IV).
- Microsoft Windows operating systems XP or 2000.
Instructions
The webcam should be of high quality with a USB connection and a microphone built into the camera. Currently we have only tested and support Logitech webcams. You should test both the camera and microphone of your webcam using the included software before attempting to connect to the Internet with MSN Messenger.
The current version of MSN Messenger is 6.1. You can download and install the software from www.msnmessenger-download.com.
We will configure MSN Messenger for you before you install it. If you prefer, you can follow the directions below to do it yourself.

Webcam Details
Logitech Webcams are available at your local computer store or can be purcased at www.logitech.com .The following models (along with list prices) meet the requirements:
- QuickCam Pro 4000 – $99.95 (Karen uses this top of the line model)
- QuickCam Zoom – $79.95
- QuickCam Messenger - $49.95
- ClickSmart Models - $79.95 to 179.95 - Combination Digital Camera and Webcam. Note: Unless you are in the market for a low-end digital camera, your $99.95 would best be spent on the Pro 4000 which has the best quality and useful features for online learning.
Configuring MSN Messenger (Optional)
To configure MSN Messenger yourself: Get a .NET password to login to MSN Messenger. You get this by setting up a Hotmail email account at https://registernet.passport.net . You do not need to use this account for any purpose other than MSN Messenger unless you want to. After installing and logging into MSN Messenger, create a contact for Karen as karendebiasse@hotmail.com. In turn, Karen will create a contact for you.
